On September 1, 2026, Japan’s National Diet Library (NDL) announced about 75,000 additional sets of searchable full-text data for rare books and old materials. That improves text discovery. The announcement did not say that 75,000 images were newly digitized or newly cleared for publication.
An editor needs a narrower answer: Which exact image is this, and what does its source say about reuse? The card below uses one image already held by the NDL. It is an example of the check to make after discovery; there is no claim that this book was included in the September update.
What this article gives you: a traceable candidate image, exact frame, source record, displayed use status and credit. The image file is not copied here. Check the frame again before production because records and intended uses can differ.

In the frame 6 viewer, Share → Use displayed “Available without login” and “インターネット公開（保護期間満了）” on 29 September 2026. The NDL reuse guide explains what this status means for reuse.
The Image Bank theme page identifies source 1183427/R0000006. Its about page says images selected for that exhibition are public domain and may be reused commercially without an NDL application. That does not make every NDL search result reusable.
The Image Bank asks users to credit the source and suggests this form: “Source: NDL Image Bank, National Diet Library, Japan (https://www.ndl.go.jp/imagebank)”. Add the work title, frame 6, PID and check date in your production notes.

Editorial decision: This is a documented candidate for a story about Japanese graphic or decorative design in the Taishō period. Its identity, location and stated reuse route can be retraced above. Before placing it in a finished layout, inspect the available download resolution and confirm the motif fits the story and intended use.
Repeat the check on another result
- Open the precise frame or volume you want, not only the title-level catalog entry.
- Read Share → Use while that frame is displayed. The NDL guide warns that individual frames or volumes can have different use statuses.
- Save the frame URL, bibliographic details, status, check date and source credit together. If a result is restricted or permission-based, online viewing alone is not publication permission.
The NDL says users remain responsible for third-party rights and should consider moral rights, privacy and other human interests even when material is in the public domain. The official guide is the starting point for the final production decision.
